In 2008, Rolex unveiled a new generation of the Submariner, initially available exclusively in Yellow and White gold. The updated models introduced several important innovations, including a redesigned “Maxi” dial with larger hour markers, a broader case and, most notably, a ceramic bezel insert, first introduced on the GMT-Master II reference 116718 in 2005. The designation “LV” stands for Lunette Verte, French for “green bezel”, referring to the distinctive Cerachrom insert developed by Rolex. Replacing the traditional aluminium insert, this advanced ceramic material offers exceptional resistance to scratches, ultraviolet rays and fading, ensuring that the bezel retains its appearance over time. Its glossy finish further enhances the watch’s contemporary character, while the diving scale numerals, engraved directly into the ceramic and coated with platinum using a physical vapour deposition process, provide excellent legibility and a refined finish.

The combination of the green dial and matching green bezel quickly earned the reference 116610LV the nickname “Hulk” among collectors. The dial features a sunburst finish, whose finely brushed surface radiates outward from the centre, creating subtle variations in colour and intensity as it catches the light. This dynamic effect gives the green hue remarkable depth, shifting between brighter, more vivid tones and darker shades depending on the lighting conditions and viewing angle. Paired with the glossy green Cerachrom bezel, the sunburst dial adds further visual dimension to the watch, enhancing the distinctive character of its monochromatic design.

The “Hulk” followed in the footsteps of the reference 16610LV “Kermit”, introduced in 2003 to celebrate the Submariner’s 50th anniversary, which featured a green aluminium bezel paired with a black dial. The reference 116610LV, however, established its own identity through its all-green aesthetic, becoming one of the most recognisable modern Rolex sports watches.

Powering the watch is the reliable self-winding Calibre 3135, a chronometer-certified movement renowned for its precision and robustness. Housed in a 40mm Oystersteel case equipped with a Triplock winding crown, the Submariner offers water resistance to 300 metres, reaffirming its origins as a professional diving instrument while remaining equally suited to everyday wear.

The present example is preserved in very good overall condition with partial stickers on the deploymnet, displaying only light signs of wear consistent with normal use. Its distinctive green sunburst dial and matching Cerachrom bezel give the watch its unmistakable character, while the overall condition remains highly appealing.

The watch is accompanied by its original Rolex presentation box, outer box, italian warranty, warranty holder, green tag and booklets. The Italian warranty is dated August 2018, providing a documented reference point for the watch’s original sale and completing an attractive set of accompanying accessories.
