Description

Vacheron Constantin Toledo 42100/000J-8711 - Refined Opaline ‘Center Guilloché’ Dial - 18K Yellow Gold - Box and Warranty

Founded in Geneva in 1755, Vacheron Constantin is the world’s oldest watch manufacture in continuous operation. Throughout its history, the Maison has distinguished itself through exceptional mechanical refinement, sophisticated decorative techniques and an enduring ability to combine classical watchmaking traditions with bold and unconventional designs.

The Toledo collection draws inspiration from the distinctive shaped watches created by Vacheron Constantin during the mid-twentieth century. Characterised by their broad, curved rectangular cases, these models became affectionately known among collectors as 'Cioccolatone', owing to their resemblance to a square of chocolate. This unusual architecture has since become one of the most recognisable expressions of the Maison’s design heritage.

Reference 42100 was introduced as part of Vacheron Constantin’s renewed exploration of its historical creations. Its sculptural case is defined by harmonious proportions, softly curved surfaces and a stepped construction that gives the watch a strong architectural presence while remaining elegant on the wrist. The distinctive form reflects the expressive creativity that characterised many of the Maison’s most celebrated post-war designs.

The dial is arranged with a refined combination of applied hour markers, classical leaf hands and a discreet date indication at 6 o’clock. The center Guilloché decoration adds depth and texture to the composition, creating a subtle interplay of light while reinforcing the watch’s traditional haute horlogerie character.

Reference 42100 is powered by the self-winding Vacheron Constantin Calibre 1312. Its automatic construction provides practical everyday functionality while preserving the slender proportions and refined character expected from an elegant dress watch.

Combining an unmistakable shaped case with a beautifully balanced dial and automatic mechanical refinement, the Toledo reference 42100 represents a compelling reinterpretation of one of Vacheron Constantin’s most distinctive historical designs.

Preserved in excellent condition, the present example is accompanied by a particularly compelling set, including its original leather pochette, outer box, Italian warranty, booklets, and notably the original warranty paper holder with the sticker bearing the reference and serial numbers. Sold in Italy at the turn of the millennium, examples preserved in such condition and accompanied by such a compelling set are becoming increasingly difficult to find, making this an especially attractive opportunity for collectors seeking a very well-preserved Toledo with original papers.
