Rolex GMT-Master 1675 - Rare Tropical ‘MK1’ Long E Dial - Rolex Warranty

The Rolex GMT-Master reference 1675 \among the most sought-after and historically important variations within the GMT-Master family, perfectly illustrating the evolution of Rolex's legendary travel watch. Introduced in 1959 as the successor to reference 6542, the 1675 brought several important improvements to the model, including the addition of crown guards, a more robust case design, and an updated movement. Its long production run, spanning more than twenty years, makes it one of the most enduring references in the history of the GMT-Master line. Throughout its lifespan, the reference 1675 appeared with numerous dial variations, each now closely studied by collectors. Among the earliest and most distinctive is the so-called "Long E" dial. The nickname originates from the unusual typography used on the dial, specifically the extended middle stroke of the letter "E" in "ROLEX," which is visibly longer than on later executions. This detail is characteristic of the Mark 1 matte dials, introduced during the transition from the earlier glossy gilt dials. When paired with the iconic blue-and-red "Pepsi" bezel insert and the warm ageing of the tritium hour markers, the "Long E" dial gives these watches a particularly attractive vintage character. Like all GMT-Master models, the watch features the signature fourth GMT hand, designed to indicate a second time zone simultaneously. This functionality was originally developed for pilots and international travellers, further reinforcing the model's status as one of the most practical and recognizable tool watches ever produced. The present example, dating to 1968, is an especially appealing specimen. Its Mark 1 "Long E" dial has developed a beautiful tropical brown patina, giving the watch a unique and highly desirable appearance. The "Pepsi" bezel insert has also aged gracefully over time, displaying an attractive faded tone that enhances the overall vintage aesthetic. Preserved in excellent condition, this watch is accompanied by its original warranty, Rolex Chronometer certificate and Rolex Service made in 1982, further reinforcing the completeness and desirability of this remarkable GMT-Master 1675 with Tropical dial.
