The annual calendar complication was invented by Patek Philippe and debuted in 1996 with the launch of the reference 5035. Unlike traditional calendar watches that require manual adjustment at the end of every month, the annual calendar automatically accounts for months with 30 or 31 days, needing correction only once a year, at the end of February. This innovation established the annual calendar as both a highly practical and elegantly complex horological advancement. The inaugural reference 5035 is powered by the self-winding Caliber 315 S QA LU, visible through a sapphire crystal caseback. This exhibition caseback showcases Patek Philippe's signature finishing, executed to the highest standards and worthy of the Geneva Seal. The in-house movement enables a well-balanced, highly intuitive dial layout, featuring the day and month on two separate subdials, a 24-hour indicator at 6 o'clock, and a date aperture just below. Housed in a beautifully proportioned and versatile 37mm case, offered in yellow, white, or rose gold, the 5035 perfectly blends classic Patek design language, with technical innovation. Though discontinued in the mid-2000s and succeeded by references such as the 5146, the 5035 remains highly regarded among collectors for its historical importance, wearability, and enduring charm. The watch is fitted with a muted, elegant black leather strap signed by Patek Philippe and secured by a matching 18k rose gold pin buckle, also signed by the Geneva-based maison. It represents a superbly preserved and highly collectible specimen of this important modern reference.
