Description
Vacheron Constantin - Stunning Two Tone Dial - 18k Yellow Gold
Founded in 1755 by Jean-Marc Vacheron in Geneva, Vacheron Constantin holds the distinction of being the oldest watch manufacturer in continuous operation. From its earliest days, the maison has been defined by its dedication to technical mastery and artistic craftsmanship, producing timepieces that blend mechanical sophistication with refined aesthetics. Throughout its nearly 270-year history, Vacheron Constantin has created some of the most complex and beautifully finished watches in existence, earning a reputation for quiet elegance and the pinnacle of haute horlogerie.
The present example is an extraordinary and early Vacheron Constantin wristwatch, a remarkable survivor dating to circa 1930. Housed in an elegant 18 k yellow gold case measuring 32 mm in diameter, it embodies the timeless proportions and craftsmanship characteristic of early 20th-century watchmaking.
Despite its modest dimensions, the case wears beautifully and exudes a refined presence on the wrist. It features a sophisticated double-stepped domed bezel, enhancing its architectural elegance and vintage charm. The case was crafted in Switzerland, signed by Vacheron Constantin, and bears the Swiss Poinçon de Maître (hallmark of the master case maker) — the hammer head 143 — along with correct 18 k gold hallmarks.
Beating inside is a beautifully finished Jaeger-LeCoultre-based movement, finely adjusted and decorated by Vacheron Constantin to the brand’s highest standards of precision and refinement.
The dial is a true highlight: a stunning two-tone composition featuring an off-white background and a soft pale yellow tone at the center, echoed in the small-seconds subdial at 6 o’clock. The hour markers alternate between applied Arabic numerals and applied gold dots, all framed by a finely printed chemin de fer minute track — a charming detail emblematic of the period. Importantly, the graphics on the dial are rendered in hard enamel, a technique of extraordinary skill and rarity, largely abandoned in modern production due to its complexity.
Preserved in good condition, this nearly century-old Vacheron Constantin dress watch represents a remarkable piece of horological history. A perfect reflection of the maison’s enduring legacy, it remains a testament to an era of refinement and artisanal excellence that defined early 20th-century Geneva watchmaking.
