Description

Rolex GMT-Master 1675 - Black ‘MK5’ Matte Dial - Faded ‘Pink & Blue’ Bezel

The GMT-Master has been a cornerstone of Rolex's collection since its debut in 1954. Developed in collaboration with Pan American World Airways, it was created in response to the rapid growth of the aviation industry during the 1950s. As long-distance air travel became increasingly common, pilots and crew needed a reliable tool to track multiple time zones simultaneously. Rolex met this demand with the launch of the now-iconic GMT-Master. Its signature feature, a rotating 24-hour bezel paired with a fourth hand that circles the dial once every 24 hours, enabled users to easily read the time in two time zones at once. This groundbreaking functionality established the GMT-Master as an essential instrument for professional aviators and a pioneering innovation in travel watches. A major evolution came in 1959 with the introduction of reference 1675, which succeeded the original 6542. This new model brought notable enhancements, including crown guards, a sturdier case, and an updated movement. Remaining in production for over two decades, the 1675 is one of the longest-running and most celebrated references in the GMT-Master lineage. This example, produced in 1978, represents one of the final iterations of this historic and highly regarded reference. It features a matte black dial with charming 'Palletoni' hour markers, paired with the iconic red-and-blue 'Pepsi' bezel and the sportier Oyster bracelet. The dial remains in excellent condition, beautifully preserved. The aluminum bezel insert has developed a particularly attractive fade: the blue upper half has gently softened, while the red lower portion has heavily faded into a delicate, almost pink hue, imbuing the watch with the kind of character and vintage charm that discerning collectors seek in classic GMTs. In excellent condition, this timepiece presents a great opportunity to own one of Rolex's most historically significant models available now.
