Description

Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore ‘Bumblebee’ 26176FO

Introduced in 1993, the Royal Oak Offshore is Audemars Piguet's bold evolution of the classic Royal Oak, designed to embody strength and sportiness while preserving the brand's hallmark craftsmanship. With its assertive design, rubber accents, and vibrant dial variations, the Offshore appeals to collectors seeking a luxury timepiece with both presence and personality. Durable yet refined, it is ideally suited for active, sport-oriented lifestyles. The inaugural model, reference 25721, unveiled at the 1993 Basel Fair, made a sensation with its oversized 42 mm case, exposed gasket, commanding wrist presence, and premium price. In 2007, Audemars Piguet released a limited edition Offshore model to commemorate its partnership with Alinghi, the celebrated Swiss sailing team. This model marked the first time the Le Brassus Maison employed a case crafted from forged carbon. Though that model was the pioneer, the reference most closely associated with the material today is the 26176FO—affectionately nicknamed the "Ers as the "Bumblebee" by collectors for its distinctive color scheme. Among the earliest AP models to also incorporate ceramic, the 'Bumblebee' employs this material in its iconic octagonal bezel. Ceramic, now a hallmark material for the brand, offers several advantages: a distinctive aesthetic, lightweight construction, and most importantly, exceptional scratch resistance comparable to that of sapphire crystal, which is used for the watch glass. The dial boldly reflects the lineage's design DNA, with chronograph counters arranged vertically on a black 'maxi tapisserie' motif. The Arabic applied indices, chronograph hand, and rehaut—where the tachymeter scale is stamped—are rendered in yellow, providing striking contrast and enhanced legibility. Preserved in very good condition, this timepiece is accompanied by an extract from the archives.
