It made horological history as the world’s first self-winding wristwatch to feature an automatically changing date at midnight—a feature now considered standard, but revolutionary at the time. This innovation set a new benchmark for how date complications should function in modern wristwatches. In 1957, over a decade after the original Datejust was introduced, Rolex began exploring smaller case sizes with the debut of the first women’s model—the 28mm Lady-Datejust. Reference 6827 was introduced in the late 1970s as part of the brand’s mid-size Datejust line. With its compact 31mm case diameter, it offered a versatile alternative between the classic 36mm Datejust and the smaller ladies' models. Powered by an in-house automatic movement, it upholds the hallmark precision and reliability synonymous with the Datejust name. The present example, crafted in 18k yellow gold, is preserved in exceptional condition. The case displays a strong natural oxidation across its surface, with the top right lug exhibiting a particularly rich, dark patina. On the back of the lugs, the gold hallmarks remain sharply defined and perfectly legible—a true delight when viewed under a loupe. This timepiece is fitted with a champagne dial featuring gold-applied indices with black accents and is sold with an additional Mother-of-Pearl dial with diamond hour markers—an elegant complement that further enhances an already compelling offering.
