Hublot, originally known as MDM Genève, is a Swiss luxury watch brand founded in 1976 by Italian Carlo Crocco. In 1980, at Baselworld, the recently born Maison unveiled its first collection, featuring the first-ever watch to be fitted with a rubber strap. In May 2004, legendary watch executive Jean-Claude Biver assumed duties as CEO of the brand, becoming a board member and minority shareholder in Hublot Watches. As expected, Biver worked his magic, turning Hublot into one of the biggest players in the luxury watch industry. One year after appointing its new CEO, Hublot launched the "Big Bang" collection in 2005, which quickly became a flagship bestseller for the brand. This collection is notable for its large case sizes and distinctive fusion of materials such as ceramic, titanium, and rubber. At the heart of the present example is Hublot's in-house HUB1242 Unico movement—an automatic flyback chronograph designed and manufactured entirely by Hublot. Another key feature is its open dial, revealing the intricate mechanics beneath, with only the numerals and essential markers displayed. This minimalist dial highlights the mechanical sophistication of the movement, while SuperLuminova-coated hour markers and hands ensure excellent legibility in low-light conditions. The bezel is crafted from scratch-resistant black ceramic, enhancing durability and resistance to wear, complemented by a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal treated with an anti-reflective coating to reduce glare and optimize visibility. Notably, the Hublot logo is printed on the underside of the crystal, a subtle detail.
