Patek Philippe has played a pivotal role in the development and popularization of numerous wristwatch complications, with the perpetual calendar standing as a hallmark example. Equally significant is the brand's contribution to one of horology's most romantic and revered complications: the World Time. In 1937, in collaboration with Louis Cottier—the inventor of the mechanism—Patek Philippe introduced the first-ever Heure Universelle wristwatch, reference 515. Over the ensuing decades, Patek Philippe continuously refined the World Time complication, offering it in a range of case designs while incorporating technical advancements that enhanced its functionality. Following the discontinuation of reference 2523-1 (an evolution of the famed 2523) in the mid-1960s, the World Time line fell silent. It wasn't until the year 2000 that Patek Philippe resurrected the complication with the introduction of reference 5110, ending a 35-year hiatus and ushering in a new era of World Time watches. Its successor, reference 5130, preserved the graceful curves of the 5110 while introducing a slightly larger 39mm case. Crucially, the model retained the signature pusher at 10 o'clock—an intuitive innovation that allowed for the simultaneous adjustment of the local hour, 24-hour ring, and city disk. This feature represented a major leap in user-friendliness, enabling effortless and precise time zone changes—further enhancing the practicality and appeal of this iconic complication. The present example, crafted in 18K yellow gold, features a striking white dial adorned with intricate inner guilloché. Exceptionally well preserved, it is offered with its original warranty and paired with a classic Patek Philippe black leather strap. The watch is secured by a matching yellow gold deployant clasp, adorned with Patek Philippe's iconic Calatrava cross.
