Rolex Cosmograph Daytona 6265 - Argentè Dial - Mint Conditions In the early 1960s, Rolex unveiled the reference 6239—a timepiece that signaled the Crown's growing interest in motorsports, and more importantly, marked the dawn of a legend: the Daytona. Over the next 25 years, the manually wound Daytonas—as they are affectionately known by collectors—evolved through a series of references. This remarkable lineage culminated in 1972 with the release of the final two references before the shift to automatic movements: the legendary 6263 and 6265. Distinguished only by their bezels, these two models represent the pinnacle of manual-wind Daytonas. As the last of their kind, they benefited from a range of upgrades, standing as the ultimate expression of the classic Cosmograph. At their heart ticks the Valjoux 727, a refined movement offering a higher frequency for greater accuracy and improved chronograph performance. Rolex also introduced a larger 7mm Triplock crown. This combined with a redefined case shape—introduced with the transitional 6262 and 6264—and the revolutionary screw-down pushers first tested on the prototype 6240, meant the Daytona could finally bear the iconic "Oyster" designation. The present example, a reference 6265 dating to 1975, features the engraved stainless steel bezel and was among the first to be paired with the solid-link Oyster bracelet. Both case and bracelet remain in exceptional condition—but it is the dial that truly sets this watch apart. The argenté "T SWISS T" dial is exceptionally preserved: the silvered base remains clean, while the deep black subdials provide striking contrast. The raised central portion retains its original azuragé finish in exquisite condition—a testament to the life of care this timepiece has enjoyed. As the final flourish, the hands and the intact luminous hour markers have aged gracefully to a warm, creamy hue, adding undeniable charm and character to an already exceptional watch.
