Tudor Pelagos FXD M25707B/24-0001
In 1926, Hans Wilsdorf, founder of Rolex, created Tudor as a brand offering high-quality Swiss tool watches at a more affordable price point. Tudor's watches bore design and reliability similarities to Rolex but retained a distinct character. The Tudor Pelagos, launched in 2012, paid homage to Tudor's legacy in diving watches, named after the Greek word for "deep sea." Engineered for extreme conditions, the Pelagos was even adopted by the French Navy. The same year, Tudor introduced the Black Bay, a model inspired by Tudor's vintage dive watches. Both the Pelagos and Black Bay were initially powered by the ETA 2824 movement, but the Pelagos distinguished itself with higher water resistance and a titanium case, marking the first titanium-cased model in the Rolex-Tudor lineup. In 2015, Tudor transitioned the Pelagos to an in-house caliber, and by 2024, the line had expanded to nine versions, all maintaining the hallmarks of a robust, highly legible dive watch with lightweight cases and lumed bezels. Some collectors see the Pelagos as continuing the "tool watch" tradition that Rolex's Submariner has largely moved away from. In 2021, Tudor added the Pelagos FXD, which features fixed strap bars (hence "FXD," for "FiXeD") to honor the brand's history with the Marine Nationale (French Navy). The FXD's key design features include a durable one-piece fabric strap made from woven polyethylene, which threads through slots in the lugs to prevent detachment if a bar fails. The bezel, optimized for military diving navigation, has an inverted scale and a bidirectional rotation to allow precise resets during underwater navigation. At 42mm, the FXD case is thinner than previous models and rated for 200m of water resistance (with no Helium Escape Valve), as Marine Nationale combat divers operate at shallower depths. Additionally, the FXD sports a simplified dial without a date display and is powered by the caliber MT5602, adapted from the Black Bay collection. This example dated from 2022 is in new, unworn condition. The watch features its set, including box, papers and warranty.
