Description

Rolex GMT-Master 1675 - MK2 Black Dial - “Pepsi” Bezel

The GMT-Master has been a cornerstone of Rolex’s collection since its debut in 1954. Developed in collaboration with Pan American World Airways, it was created in response to the rapid growth of the aviation industry during the 1950s. As long-distance air travel became increasingly common, pilots and crew needed a reliable tool to track multiple time zones simultaneously. Rolex met this demand with the launch of the now-iconic GMT-Master. Its signature feature—a rotating 24-hour bezel paired with a fourth hand that circles the dial once every 24 hours—enabled users to easily read the time in two time zones at once. This groundbreaking functionality established the GMT-Master as an essential instrument for professional aviators and a pioneering innovation in travel watches. A major evolution came in 1959 with the introduction of reference 1675, which succeeded the original 6542. This new model brought notable enhancements, including crown guards, a sturdier case, and an updated movement. Remaining in production for over two decades, the 1675 is one of the longest-running and most celebrated references in the GMT-Master lineage. The present example, produced in 1971, features the second-generation dial that replaced the earlier “gilt” version. This model showcases the “MK2” matte black dial, a style that would remain until the end of the 1675’s production in 1980. It is paired with the iconic red-and-blue “Pepsi” bezel and the sportier Oyster bracelet—perhaps the most quintessential configuration of the reference. Remarkably well-preserved, the matte dial retains its original beauty, while the luminous material on the hands and hour markers has aged to a warm, creamy hue. This patina offers a beautiful contrast to the vibrant, richly colored bezel insert, which remains strikingly intact. The combination exudes vintage character without appearing overly worn or too altered by time. In exceptional condition, this timepiece represents a rare opportunity to own one of Rolex’s most historically significant models, presented here in one of its most iconic and desirable forms.
