Towards the end of the 1930s, IWC crafted large wristwatches with exceptionally high precision for two Portuguese merchants, utilizing pocket watch movements. Significantly larger and more striking than typical timepieces of the era, these wristwatches were introduced to the market in 1939. The legendary design of the Portugieser collection, characterized by its substantial dimensions, understated Arabic numerals, slender leaf hands, a "chemin de fer" style minute markers, came to fruition in the 1930s, a period during which it was considered ahead of its time. This specific modern interpretation of the Portugieser features a chronograph complication. The watch has been kept in excellent condition and is full set.
