The GMT has been a fundamental model in Rolex collections since its introduction in 1954. Initially, it was developed in collaboration with Pan American World Airways (an airline that unfortunately filed for bankruptcy in 1991 and was partially acquired by Delta Airlines). In the 1950s, with the expansion of the aviation industry and the increase in long-distance flights, pilots and flight crews began to need a way to manage multiple time zones simultaneously. That's when Rolex introduced the GMT Master for Pan Am. The 24-hour bezel proved to be a key and innovative feature of the model, allowing wearers to simultaneously track two time zones. The fourth hand, displaying 24 hours, allowed the wearer to set the watch to the primary time zone, while the rotating bezel allowed for adjustment to a second time zone. For those who may not know, GMT stands for "Greenwich Mean Time." The ref. 16750 followed the 1675, making it the first new steel GMT-Master reference in some two decades. The defining feature of this reference was its quick-set date, made possible by the introduction of the new Rolex cal. 3075, a movement that also saw an increased frequency. This reference has been produced for about 8 years, from 1980 to 1988. This example has its original warranty and has been kept in excellent condition. The watch is from 1985 and features a stunning brown dial.
